blog blogger
After a bit of googling I was able to find a good definition for blog.
And I quote:
"A frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and Web links."
In case you haven't figured it out...that's exactly what t-shirtjunkies.com is, with a slight twist ;-) My personal thoughts usually revolve around a t-shirt design that catches my eye for one reason or another.
Seeing the Blogger t-shirt for only $9 bucks in the Google Store REALLY caught my eye!
That is about the best price I've seen for a high quality, screen printed t-shirt in a LOOOONG time. I'm buying one right after I finished typing just because it might be a typo and I don't want to pay $19 or $90 dollars for the shirt.
I like how simple t-shirt t-shirt design is. Using a nice contrast of my favorite color (orange), and a white background.
So many t-shirt designs these days try to do too much with the t-shirt canvas. I still like to t-shirt of t-shirts as art, but at the same time, it's what I like to call "microwave art":
a moving, meaningful, beautiful message, condensed down to the 3 seconds most people take to look at the front of your shirt.
So all you t-shirt designers out there, remember that the best designs speak to you with only a glance. Who knows if you'll ever get more than that.

Opera Browser
If you haven't used the Opera internet browser yet, you are definitely missing out.
I've been using Opera for a few years now, and with each new version of the software, they consistently get better and better. Unlike other software companies, Opera Software actually works to make LESS bloated software. That means faster loading on startup, faster loading web pages, and a browser that will run well on all systems (From unix, to windows, to macs!)
Worried about if you will be able to view your favorite sites? No worries! The latest version of Opera adheres completely to accepted web standards such as HTML, XML, XHTML, WML, CSS, and DOM.
If you try out the free version of Opera (has a small banner ad in the top corner), you will soon be wondering why you've been bothering with IE and Netscape for so many years. There IS another option, and the option is good :-)
After a few weeks of using Opera I decided to buy the banner-less version of the browser. 1) Because I wanted to support a company that had noble ideals like making a browser that is accessible to all, fast and clean, and easy to use and 2) because I wanted those 468 pixels back on my screen.
I'm still working my way into becoming a power Opera user. There are so many keyboard shortcuts and customizations available, it can easily change and enhance the way you surf the web.
Now if they only added the ash gray t-shirts to their cafepress store, I'd be able to add an Opera T-Shirt to my collection! You can still get yours today!

Kobe or not Kobe
Kobe or not Kobe, that is the question on the minds of most sporting fans these days.
As websites continue to pop up surrounding the sexual assualt case involving NBA star Kobe Bryant, it is hard to stay focused on some basics of the American legal justice system.
I've seen comments already that have branded the alleged victim in this case a "gold digger" and who have pigeon holed Kobe as "another OJ".
I, for one, look forward to the actual trial and hopefully the facts that emerge as a result of the trial. Some say the American court system is a joke, where the name of the game is to "out maneuver" your opponent; truth be damned.
Game or no game, currently, it is the best system we have for finding out the truth. I think the speculations that are happening by the propenents of each side in this case are almost worse that whatever legal schemes the lawyers come up with to beat or make their case.
If Colorado had as good of CSI team as the fake CSI team of Las Vegas, this case could be solved in 53 minutes.
As it turns out, it's looking like it will be more like a season finale, sweeps induced, feature length episode of Law and Order.
If you're tired of the speculation, pick up this cool t-shirt that reminds you what the question is.

Bob Hope
Today America the World lost a true legend.
Bob Hope was really one of the classics. I think one of the things that makes me the saddest about his passing, is the fact that my daughter, now only 3 months old, may never get to experience the greatness that is Bob Hope.
Not only was he a true entertainer, he was an all around good person, and one of the last few "role models" a person could look up to.
Thank goodness for DVDs and the art of story telling.
Hopefully, through traditional, technological, and yes, even clothing media, the legend of Bob Hope will continue to live on.
This Bob Hope T-Shirt is sold by the US Library of Congress, home of the Bob Hope exhibition.
I think I should make plans to take a family trip there someday.

Simpons Everyone All Characters
The Simpsons are like an American pop culture staple.
If you've been alive in the past 10+ years then you have to know what The Simpsons are to television.
Don't give me that "I don't watch television" pseudo-intellectual-higher-than-thou phrase.
To that I can only quote Jules Winfield:
"You are aware that there is an invention called television, and on this nvention they show shows, right".
I think one of the things that makes The Simpsons the great show is the fact that, because of its longevity and use of current events, it serves as sort of a pop culture timeline when watched in reruns.
You can find references to what the popular topic of the day/week/year was, just by tuning in to each subsequent episode. The brilliant writers behind the show always seem to know how to subtly slide in an allusion to the most recent current events.
If only Family Guy were still on the air, Fox may have had a show that could have given The Simpsons a run for its money. That show had more allusions than a Dennis Miller rant.
Go get yourself a Simpons t-shirt today!

Got Pancakes - I Love Pancakes
I like pancakes. My wife made me try these frozen pancakes from Krusteaz yesterday, and while I was hesitant to try "fake" pancakes, I have to admit, they were pretty darn good!
I was watching an old episode of Family Guy the other day where little Stewie got his first taste of pancakes. He sums up my love for pancakes in this quote.
(from Family Guy Episode 11: http://www.southperk.com/e11.html )
Mitch Hedberg with some deep thoughts on pancakes:
"As a comedian, you have to start your act out strong, but you also have to save some of the good stuff for later... You can't be like pancakes, all exciting at first, but by the end you're fuckin' sick of 'em."
--Mitch Hedburg
I added that last dash since Mitch said he always wanted to be quoted with a dash. Go buy his CD, it's pretty damn funny. Better yet, go see him live.
The best pancakes I've ever had were at Joann's Country Kitchen Too in Modesto, CA. Pancakes as big as the 20 inch rims in a rap video.
So if you're a big fan of pancakes like me, pick up this t-shirt for your next trip to your favorite pancake joint.

Orange Retro Atari
Anyone in there late 20's remeber's this gaming icon before gaming was even a term!
You and me sat around and played Pong until our wrists hurt. We marveled at the 8 bit graphics and wondered how anything be so entertaining for so long.
If we didn't have an Atari of our own, we knew at least 2 friends who did, and who were available at the ring of a doorbell. Hours of our lives were spent watching the square ball bounce from left to right (and hopefully back to the left again).
Yes, we moved on from Pong when Pac Man came around...but we never forgot. A few of us still have our Atari 2600 tucked away in the closet for those rainy days.
We've got our big screen TVs, high speed internet access, Playstation 2, Xbox, or Gamecube (or if you're like me, you some managed to accumulate all 3). We've got our flash online games, mulitplayer world of The Sims, and maybe even some neat time wasters on our cell phone.
But those of us who were in awe back then will never forget. It started with pong, it started with Atari. Where will it take us next?

Justice League
I'm sorta new to the world high density tees, but if the rest of them are anything like this Justice League t-shirt, I'm hooked.
I bought this t-shirt from WickedCoolStuff.com and first off I have to say that the shipping turnaround time was superfast (I got the shirt in like 3 days and they even sent me a UPS tracking number once my order shipped). The shirt in person is just a natural eye catcher. My wife saw the shirt on the the couch and after her initial reaction of "not another t-shirt! :-)" she was amazed by the quality of the tee.
To me, that's one of the best barometers of a cool t-shirt. Sometimes a cool tee might sneak by me by since I see so many every day. When I can get validation from my wife on a t-shirt I think is cool, that makes it all the more real. I love how the design actually stands off of the t-shirt and has a unique texture to it. After a bit of research into the field of high density printing, this popular Cartoon Network tee seems to be the best of the bunch.
To the uninitiated, high density printing is the process of printing a garment with a special type of ink through a thick stencil. The result is a raised, glossy screen print with very shark edges.
On top of being a t-shirt junkie I'm a certified cartoon junkie. From Scooby Doo, to the Animaniacs, I love them all. I love the old 5 minute Bugs Bunny cartoons and it is my strong belief that every adult should have to re-watch all of the cartoons that they saw as a child so they can catch all the cool hidden meanings. You could spend days browsing the cartoon, tv, and movie music t-shirt selection at Wicked Cool Stuff. You can even get matching lunchboxes!

Famous Irish Writers
I'm so mad. I had this great review all typed out for the Famous Irish Writers t-shirt from colours.ie; unfortunately, greymatter crashed in the middle of posting it to the server and I lost all the text. I don't use greymatter anymore for the reviews :)
That ought to be a loud reminder for me to use EditPad to write the review and THEN copy and paste it into GreyMatter only after I saved and edited all the text.
It had nice links to the full text of James Joyce's Ulysses, the emerald isle, and allusions to Raymond Carver and some other short story writer.
Anyway, Colours has some cool t-shirts to check out...sorry you missed the great review.

Stones to Bones Trombonist
I've never played the trombone and I would buy this t-shirt in a second!
Although it seems like the t-shirt market has shifted to allow more "text based" designs to be more popular, I think this trombone oriented design has a market appeal that crosses many boundaries.
Like I said, I've never been a trombonist, in fact, I've never successfully picked up a musical instrument in my 28 years. In grade school I dabbled at the clarinet because my parents made me...but I'm hardly a musician.
Something about this shirt just grabs me though. To get the full effect, you should really take a look at the zoomed in version of the t-shirt design, but here's a sample of the graphic below:

You can tell that the artwork was professionally done and well thought out. The colors used seem to compliment the theme of the drawing as well as highlight the important aspects of the design (the trombonist in the "present" and the word "Bones"). Whoever did the artwork for this t-shirt definitely put a lot of time into the layout. The end result is well worth it!
The text from the main storefront says it best:
"Ancient forms of musical expression (singing, skin beating, gut plucking, and button pushing) have been replaced by the soul, the lyricism, and the power of the trombone. The pinnacle of musical expression is owned by none other than the supersonic bodacious bone."
Bodacious...yes, I think that's the word that describes this t-shirt! I haven't used it since the 80's, but this design is well deserving. Grab one for yourself today...my official shopping day is this Friday and I'm trying to hold out until then :-)

Boxing Silhoutte Sports
For the longest time I wasn't a fan of the sport of boxing; recent boxing matches, and this t-shirt have turned me completely around though.
I remember as a little kid watching my dad watch boxing on TV late nights on HBO. It was almost as if he was in the sanctioned fight himself. His head, bobbing and weaving in reaction to the punches thrown. When "the fight" was on, you couldn't get through to him though, he was engulfed in the action.
There was one time when I was about 7 and I wanted him to take me to McDonalds to get a cheeseburger and "the fight" had just started. I thought maybe this time might be an exception since we hadn't been out to eat in a loooong time, and McDonald's cheeseburgers were his favorite too. I must have begged and pleaded for the first 3 rounds of that fight, until he final put his foot down and told me to get out of the room. I can't figure out why I never took to the sport :-)
For some reason recently, I find myself watching boxing on HBO whenver I run across it. I'm 28 now, and maybe that's the year that boxing actually starts to grow on you. I guess if it took me 5 years to get used to beer, boxing couldn't be too far behind.
A while back I saw the fight to end all fights. Fernando Vargas vs Oscar De La Hoya. To me, this boxing match was boxing, as a sport, defined. De La Hoya seemed to be "playing the game" from the beginning, wearing out Vargas by allowing Vargas to land punches, seemingly at will. In the later rounds, DeLaHoya literally bounced back and handed down a boxing lesson that Vargas couldn't help but learn. In the after fight interview, there were no "catch phrases" or cliches that you normally hear in sports interviews. De La Hoya was lively, interactive, and even reflective on the fight he had just completed. Watching him wax nostalgic about that fight and prior fights, you would have never imagined that he was getting pounded by what seemed to be a stronger boxer, just minutes earlier.
Give me any good sports match, and I think you can make me a fan pretty easily. Couple that will some cool sports related t-shirts...heck, I'm set for life.

Cereal Killer
This is one of my top 25 favorite t-shirts of all time.
Any t-shirt that gets comments as you walk through the supermarket is a worthy tee in my book. I had one lady ask me where she could buy the t-shirt for her son. Another college aged student seemed to know I got it online and just cut straight to the "what website did you get that from"
When I first saw this shirt on t-shirtking, I knew it was for me. Like many in my generation, cereal is much more than a breakfast food, it's a staple of life.
What is it that makes cereal a perfect food for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and 3AM coding sessions?
Could it be the riboflavin? Could it be the 12 vitamins and minerals packed inside each tasty, milk soaked morsel? Possibly it's the handy reading material on the box of every box.
My box of choice is usually Cinnamon Toast Crunch. What's yours?.

Secret Memo
There's a saying in the movie industry that all the good stories have already been told.
The same could hold true for the t-shirt design industry. After looking at t-shirts just about every day for the past 7 years, you start to feel like all the good t-shirt ideas have already been printed.
Every now and then you run across a design that can change that cynicism. And this Secret Memos t-shirt did just that.
The back of the t-shirt looks like there's a note pinned to the back, and each t-shirt carries a different "secret" message.
This t-shirt is like those scenes in movies where the character looks right at the camera and talks to the audience. The interaction reminds you that you are watching a movie, but at the same time, the movie isn't supposed to know that.
Some of you may be old enough to remember the days when teachers used to pin notes on your shirt as a reminder to you or your parents when you got home. These designs "tattle" on you in the same way with a fake note attached to the back.
My favorite is the Under Surveillance (just act normal) design shown to the left. It would make the perfect gag gift for a friend who doesn't mind being in on the gag :-)
