mitch hedberg quadruple tree

I love comedy almost as much as I love I love t-shirts (actually, I think they both share a space that is equidistance from my heart)

When I was in high school, I had quiet fantasies of becoming a stand up comedian. However, since I have a tendency to hurl when speaking in public like SouthPark Stan on ipecac, I sort of gave up that idea...but I've always considered myself a "funny guy". I'm pretty sure I have a sense of humor.

One of my favorite comedians of all time is/was Mitch Hedberg.

My wife and I went to see Mitch Hedburg at a local comedy club a few years back, and he’s been our favorite comedian ever since.

His delivery and ability to laugh at himself (and get you laughing) were uncanny.

He reminded me of Steven Wright in his prime, but much funnier.

Unfortunately, Mitch Hedberg passed away earlier this year.
The Quadruple Tree bit can be found on his last CD, Mitch All Together.

I can't tell you what hotel I'm stayin at...but there are two trees involved.'

They said...let's call this hotel..."somethin tree". So they had a meeting...it was...it was quite short.

"How about TREE"

"No"

"Double Tree?"

"Hell ya! Meeting Adjourned!"

"I had my heart set on Quadruple Tree...well we were almost there!"

The official Mitch Hedberg site has some cool products for sale including a few nice t-shirt designs related to some of Mitch's material. I bought the Quadruple Tree t-shirt yesterday (in Green)...it would have been cool to see a t-shirt about his bit on pancakes:

“As a comedian, you have to start your act out strong, but you also have to save some of the good stuff for later... You can’t be like pancakes, all exciting at first, but by the end you’re fuckin’ sick of ‘em.” --Mitch Hedburg

I added that last dash since Mitch said he always wanted to be quoted with a dash.

If you're a fan of Mitch Hedberg, or a fan of comedy in general, you should pick up the Mitch Hedberg CDs (and of course a couple of his cool t-shirts)!

You can see a video clip of Mitch on Comedy Central at youtube here.

November 3, 2006 update - Mitch Hedburg Memorial Escalator t-shirts are available here for al imited time.

don't make the rocks cry

You ever found a product or a service you really liked? (I really like this t-shirt)

I guess not just "really" liked, but really-really-really-really-really liked. Yes that's 5 reallys.

A product/service that you liked so much that you would almost say you LOVED it (if it wasn't weird to "love" a material item).

When I think of a general product like that falls into that category for me, the first thought that comes to mind is, of course, t-shirts.

I created this t-shirtjunkies website to be sort of a t-shirtblog. A weblog of my own "t-shirt travels" because I've found some pretty darn cool tees out there, and much to my wife's dismay, I buy a LOT of tshirts.

When I get to thinking about t-shirts, it's almost like I want to tell everyone I meet and talk to about how cool they are, or tell them about the latest t-shirt that made me laugh out loud.

It's almost unnatural to talk about t-shirts as much as I do. I guess when live your life a certain way, it effects all the things that you do. Wearing t-shirts is a certain kind of fashion statement that says something about the type of person you are.

I know it's a generalization, but I see t-shirt wearers as laid back, comfortable, easy going individuals that try not to take things too seriously. That sort of describes me, but at the same time, t-shirt wearers are more complex. T-shirt wearers are fathers, mothers, doctors, lawyers, rabbis, priests, bank tellers and bank robbers.

You really can't judge someone by the t-shirt they wear (or even if they wear t-shirts or don't wear t-shirts).

Sometimes I think that if I stopped talking about how great t-shirts are, that it would upset the space/time continuum. Like if I stopped talking about t-shirts, weird things would happen like frogs would rain from the sky or dogs would start talking.

I guess what I'm saying is I truly believe that people should never stop talking about the things they love. Whether your passion is t-shirts, books, or the bible; what you love is a part of you. If you want people to know you, it's imperative that you share yourself, especially the positive parts of yourself.

A very cool t-shirt design that I've recently come across is from a new foward thinking fashion company, Faveur Fashion.

Their "Don't Make the Rocks Cry" t-shirt is just one of many inspirational t-shirt designs that do a great job at doing something original with the t-shirt as a medium for delivering a message.

Their shirts don't just give you a quick opinion or thought, but rather they pose a thought provoking question that deserves an answer. Think of them as conversation starters.

Geared towards the Christian community, but relevant to all, the Faveur Fashion tees have nice original artwork, professionally screen printed on high quality, private labeled shirts.

This particular design comes from Luke 19:39-40, which says:

(39) Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, rebuke Your disciples."

(40) But Jesus answered, "I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!"

If you have beliefs that you want to share, or if you just love cool t-shirt designs, this is the t-shirt for you. Get yours...I'm getting mine this Friday :)

black eyed peas

I love the BlackEyedPeas.

What a better day to review a Black Eyed Peas t-shirt than on the day they drop their 4th album, Monkey Business.

Since 1998, the Black Eyed Peas have been delivering original lyrics, hot beats, and that funky BEP style.

My brother first introduced me to BEP way back in the day. He always seemed to be trying to drop some musical knowledge on me. Exposing me to different musical styles from INXS, Buena Vista Social Club to the Black Eyed Peas. I owe my interest in such a wide variety of musical genres to my bro.

Prior to the past couple of years, the Black Eyed Peas were one of those hidden gems of the hip hop world. Partly because they didn't exactly fit into the hip hop pigeon hole.

The Be Free track from the Behind the Front album was part disco, part funk, part rap. They had dance tracks like Request + Line and Rap Song on the Bridging the Gap album. On their most commercially popular album, Elephunk, they had latin tracks (Latin Girls), songs in Tagalog (The Apl Song), and even rock tracks (Anxiety).

I remember when I first popped the Elephunk CD in my car's CD player. It was one of the first albums I had purchased in a loooong time that I actually liked from the first track to the last track.

As I write this review, I'm listening to the new Monkey Business album I got from iTunes. The journey of the Black Eyed Peas from hip hop obscurity to main stream moguls reminds me how the group Outkast took a very similar journey. If you heard them over 10 years ago on the southernplayalisticcadillacmusic album, you would have never known they would grow into the group they are today.

It's nice to see unique artists grow. Some people seem to think that when a band becomes popular, they are no longer "cool" or they've sold out somehow. I tend to think just the opposite. Those bands put in a lot of hard work to get to where they could make a good living doing what they love to do, and reach as many people as possible. They deserve all the fame they can get.

It's like when your wife gets a "bad" dye job. You know you can see her roots, but she still looks DAMN good :)

Today I picked up a couple of cool t-shirts from the official Black Eyed Peas online store. A cool, chocolate colored tee with raised print and a nice navy t-shirt with the BEP logo.

If you're a fan of the Black Eyed Peas, or if you just love music like I do, you should check out their t-shirts (and CD -- it's hot).

orange crush

Orange is my favorite color. So when I saw this orange t-shirt with orange ink, I just had to have it.

Lately, I've been noticing a trend for t-shirts to have printing that's only a slight contrast from the garment color. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Here, it worked pretty darn well.

This original t-shirt design from Mindtrix is well drawn with a nice eastern culture flava.

It's nice to see an independent t-shirt company grow over the years.

I remember when Mindtrix was getting its t-shirtstart a few years ago when they opened a shop at cafepress. Even then I could see that they not only had the designs, but the drive to take them further.

It seemed it only took them a few months to outgrow the services CafePress could provide and they went on to expand their t-shirt line with new designs and get them professionally screen printed on quality shirts in many different colors.

Now you can see Mindtrix t-shirts showing in popular tradeshows like Visual Graffitti, Pool and the Thread Show. They took their online t-shirt venture and made it trancend to the offline world of brick and mortar sales.

If you're cruising down Melrose in Los Angeles, you can pick up some cool Mindtrix shirts at The Temple of Boom. If you're in the Bay Area, you can head over to Union Street in San Francisco and pick up some mindtrix threads at the Mingle Fashion Boutique.

Or, if you're like me, you like to shop for t-shirts from the comfort of your own heavily worn office chair. Slice of Round Table Pizza hanging precariously over the keyboard and a diet Pepsi waiting in the wings. Just a few clickety clicks over to the Mindtrix site and they deliver a fresh t-shirt right to your door (not in 30 minutes or less though).

Check out Mindtrix today and pick up an orange crush t-shirt of your own. You'll dig it.

japanese guinea pig

I'm not sure exactly why I like this t-shirt.

I've never owned a guinea-pig (or cavy as they seem to be commonly called). I mean they are cute and all, but they're just not my kind of pet.

Still, there's something about this morumotto shirt from northshoreshirts.com that just says "wear me".

I think it may be the simple line drawing and the katakana writing underneath. A lot of time I like simplicity in my t-shirt designs. That's not to say I don't appreciate designs that are a bit more complex, just that I find myself wearing designs that get straight to the point (whatever that point may be) more often.

The katakana writing reminds me of my brief trip to Japan back in 1995. I went to visit my sister and her family, and I remember how out-of-place I felt on the urban subways of Tokyo. When you're 6'3", it seems you're a bit of an oddity. It wasn't a bad feeling, like I was alienated, it was just weird to be the object of so many people's curiousity.

I keep saying I'm going to go back and visit Japan, now that I'm 10 years older and can appreciate all the cool sites I visited. I want to be able to make it farther up Mount Fuji (a snow storm was coming in, so we had to stay at one of the lower base stations). I want to visit more of the temples with open eyes. I want to buy a beer out of one of the vending machines that lined the streets (mmm...vending machine beer). I want to take my 1 GB memory card, slap it in my 10D and fill 'er up.

Another place I want to revisit is Newmarket, England. I spent 3 years of my life growing up in this small town in Suffolk. I was too young to remember much, but the memories I do have are fond ones. Every year I tell my wife that I want to take her and the kids there to show them the little shops where I used to buy sweets and fish and chips. I'm sure we'll make it there someday.

The whole northshoreshirts shop seems to be centered around the island lifestyle of Hawaii. Me and a buddy of mine took our families to Hawaii for Mother's Day in 2003. My daughter just turned 1 year old, and even though she won't remember the trip, we took enough pictures help recreate some memories for her. Yet another place that I've vowed to revisit.

photo from hawaii

So I think somehow, this little japanese morumotto guinea pig t-shirt reminds me of some of the places I've traveled; places I want to return to. It's weird how a t-shirt can bring up fond memories just by a simple picture. It's similar to how a particular smell or an old song can bring back vivid memories when you encounter them.

If you have fond memories of your cute cavy, your trip to japan, or if you just like oddball t-shirts, pick up this morumotto guinea pig t-shirt today! Northshoreshirts carries a wide range of non-guinea pig related funny t-shirts, so check them out during your next t-shirt shopping binge!

I'm Internet Famous

This t-shirt is what t-shirts are all about.

T-shirts are about wearing something that you can relate to; being able to express yourself with simple, inexpensive fashion.

3 words screen printed in white ink on a 100% cotton t-shirt and it sums up my little existence when I'm working online (you can pretend to be anything online...even being famous :)

"I'm Internet Famous"

When I talk with my "offline" friends about what I do, I always find myself explaining extra terms and jargon that seems like everyday basic vocab to me. After a while they bypass all the definitions by just asking me "how's business going?"

I think I'm gonna start telling them those 3 simple words: I'm Internet Famous

Not that it's necessarily true, but it's funny to say anyway.

I mean, I've had my 15 minutes of fame because of my various online ventures.

My sites have been voted "Cool Site of the Day" (and "Cruel Site of the Day"), featured in the Lockergnome Newsletter (I'd have to explain Lockergnome to offline folks :), Yahoo! Internet Life Magazine, USA Today, Stuff Magazine, BBC Radio, Channel 5 Evening News Magazine (Bay Area), Oakland Tribune, several national and international radio shows, TechTV, Fortune Small Business, New York Post (PageSix), Ian Collins Radio Show, Impressions Magazine, a couple of independent films, and just last month a couple of my sites were on the cover of the Wall Street Journal. But who's counting :)

But I digress. What I'm trying to say is, some say text t-shirts with witty sayings aren't "artistic". I say just the opposite. I think that art is any "piece" that has the ability to connect with the person viewing it. It could move them to tears, make them smile, make them say "YES, THAT'S ME!" or even just make them think about their life in a totally different way.

There is something artistic about choosing the right message, the right medium and the right venue. To me, the guys at comet7 found a synergy of those 3 elements and made the perfect kind of tshirtart.

They also made buying the t-shirt super easy. It took me like 2 clicks to pay for the shirt with my PayPal account and I had the shirt on my doorstep within 2 days (even over a holiday!). That's my kind of tshirtcustomerservice! A decently priced t-shirt with reasonable shipping costs, what more could you ask for.

If your ego is feeling like it needs a boost, or if you want to proclaim your status as an interneticon, this is the t-shirt for you.

What are you waiting for, let the world know you're InternetFamous!

corny knows vintage

My wife laughed out loud when she saw me wearing this corny t-shirt.

To me, that's the ultimate barometer of a t-shirt's worthiness. She's seen me wear so many different t-shirt designs that almost nothing I wear gets a reaction out of her anymore. Funny tees, offensive tees, witty tees, pretty artistic t-shirts, weird shirts, she's seen them all.

I guess that's what happens when you marry a certified t-shirt junky.

Every now and then I try to slide a new t-shirt past her without the usual "whaddaya think of this one, honey?" enquiry.

I wore my Corny Knows You Da Man tee when we were headed out to breakfast last Sunday. As I came downstairs, I see her looking at me and snickering. I didn't have any boogers (I checked before I came downstairs), so I knew something had to be up.

"That's a cool t-shirt...where did you get that one?"

"Online"

"Shoulda guessed :)"

Any t-shirt that can get a smile out of my wife gets extra points in my book.

Visiting the fatdoug website is a t-shirt shopper's dream. When you hit the homepage, you are presented with quick thumbnail images of all the t-shirts fatdoug has for sale.

Clicking on any thumbnail will take you to a very nicely laid out product page with a clear image of the vintage t-shirt design actually printed on the t-shirt (which gives you a better idea of how the actual printing looks before you buy).

Fatdoug includes a handy product sizing table on each product page to help you figure out which size will best fit you. They carry size small through XXL in most of their designs.

These screen printed designs aren't expensive either. It seems Fatdoug is not only fat, but thrifty as well. All tees start at just $9.99 each! Less than $10 bucks for a cool vintage tee, that's a gimme.

If I had to find one negative aspect about the fatdoug shopping experience, I would say that the bravenet popup/under thingamajig that happens when you navigate some of the pages of the site is a bit of a pain. It took over my firefox browser window and tried to resize my browser (hint hint fatdog if you're listening :) (fatdoug listened...see comments below :)

If you love funny, unique vintage style t-shirt designs, FatDoug.com is the t-shirt shop for you.

I've got my corny tee, get yours!
