red cross

Sometimes you can buy a t-shirt and help make a difference at the same time.

The victims of Hurricane Katrina are still recovering from the horrendous storms that hit the Southern United States.

This doesn't seem like a time to be thinking about t-shirts, but the Red Cross store makes it easy to show your support for the Red Cross with a vintage style t-shirt and make a donation in one easy transaction.

I found out today that the Red Cross has added a program for webmasters to donate advertising space on their websites to help support the Red Cross in their efforts to raise money for the effected families. Not only for the current disaster left by Hurricane Katrina, but also to help support their continuing efforts responding to emergencies around the world.

They have some terms that webmasters must agree to so that the banners do not show up on offensive sites or link to the Red Cross in a way that would associate the organization with negative press (which is why all the links to their site have tracking links with them).

After agreeing to the terms, I was able to download a banner so I can hopefully help generate some donations for their worthy cause.

While looking at the banners available I found one that links to the official Red Cross Store. While there I was able to find a cool vintage Red Cross t-shirt and add a donation to the disaster relief fund to my shopping cart.

To find the t-shirt, you can visit this link, then click on the Vintage Products graphic in the lower right hand corner. On the resulting page you'll see a link to the Red Cross t-shirt in the right hand side.

Normally I'd link directly to the page where you can buy the shirt, but the Red Cross store won't allow you to link directly to products because it generates a new "session" each time you visit the store and that session expires after a short period of time.

To add a donation to your shopping cart, you can visit this link, then click on the ADD A DONATION link in the top red navigation area of the site. From there you can choose where you'd like to direct your donation: Disaster Relief Fund (this helps the Hurricane victims), International Response Fund, Military Services, or the Biomedical Services Captial Campaign.

I figure if all us t-shirt junkies all buy one cool shirt and make any type of donation we can afford, we can help do some good in this time of need.

So head on over and buy a cool t-shirt and make a donation to the Red Cross. If you don't want a t-shirt, why not take a few seconds to make a direct donation to help the Red Cross support those families in need.

About the Red Cross
Governed by volunteers and supported by community donations, the American Red Cross is a nationwide network of nearly 900 field units dedicated to saving lives and helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Led by 1 million volunteers and 36,000 employees, the Red Cross annually mobilizes relief to families affected by more than 70,000 disasters, trains almost 12 million people in lifesaving skills and keeps U.S. military families connected worldwide. The Red Cross is the largest supplier of blood and blood products to more than 3,000 hospitals across the nation and also assists victims of international disasters and conflicts at locations worldwide.

Kanye West

Kayne West's new album may be entitled Late Registration, but his style of hip hop arrived on the scene just in the nick of time.

A couple of weeks ago I got an email from FTK (Fits Tunes Kicks), letting me know about a special pre-order combo pack for the new Kanye West album, Late Registration. I bought some shirts and CDs from them last year and they were nice enough to remember my preferences.

So I was able to get the CD and a cool Kanye West t-shirt (the shirt style I got is now sold out) for about $35 bucks. They shipped the pre-order out last Friday and I got the CD a day before it was scheduled to be released. I was going to just get it off iTunes, but hey, if I can get a cool t-shirt in the process, how's a t-shirt junkie (and a music junkie) supposed to turn that down.

If I'm being perfectly honest, I liked the shirt Kanye released with his last album much better. The graphic was more to the point, I dug the big bold "The College Dropout" text on the front. That shirt always got looks or comments when I wore it. Either from Kanye West fans or from fellow college dropouts ;)

The shirt I got this week has a more stylized bear figure (which seems to be Kanye's animal counterpart) with the words "late registration" under it:

These shirts also have custom neck labels from G.O.O.D. (Getting Out Our Dreams) Music, Kanye's new record label:

If you are a fan of hip hop music, you should definitely pick up this CD. It's got the soulful beats that West is famous for. Couple that his trademark confident and complex lyrics and you've got a perfect followup to his Grammy winning debut album.

This album has a wide variety of rap styles from freestyle, bragging, love ballads, and of coure the great collaboration track, GONE (my personal favorite). Gone is a classic hip hop track that reminds me of one of the original rap collaboration tracks, "The Symphony" by Marley Marl (featuring Big Daddy Kane). Melodic pianos play in the background as the lyricists freestyle over the beat.

But back to the t-shirts :) FTK carries official merchandise from other artists as well as major sportswear brands like Adidas and urban clothing lines including Triple 5 Soul and obey

If you are a fan of music or cool t-shirts, definitely check out the FTK Online t-shirt shop and their selection of Kanye West t-shirts and merchandise.

They offer good prices and superfast shipping, 2 things I love in a t-shirt shop :)
