yellowman tattoo heavy metal

I've never paid $200+ for a t-shirt, but if I was going to buy one, this would be it.

I think I first ran across this t-shirt when the site owner submitted their cool t-shirt site to the T-Shirt Links Directory.

I must have spent a good half hour to an hour browsing through the amazing tattoo t-shirt designs on the site. I'll be honest, I don't have an ounce of ink on my body, but the quality of artwork displayed on the yellowman t-shirt site is freaking beautiful!

In fact, it was almost so beautiful that I wondered if the t-shirt images shown on the site weren't just conceptual drawings of what a neat t-shirt would be. After checking out their "Store Locations" section and seeing that the Yellowman products are carried in fine stores like SAKS Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and their own Yellowman LA retail storefront, my mind was set as ease.

I'm usually not a big fan of flash in ecommerce situations, however the developer behind the Yellowman store used it to help the functionality and useability of the site, rather than to showup his flash skills. You can view 360 product images of each of the shirts (which is especially usefull for the unique allover printing that is used on the designs). The layout of the site is easy to navigate and it's easy to find lots of interesting information about the garments used, the tattoo artists behind the designs and the company itself.

I like to read a bit about a t-shirt company's history before buying their stuff, and I'm always more inclined to buy if they have an interesting/unique/clever/meaningful premise behind their designs. Yellowman's history is definitely inspiring. From their About page, they state:

"Your skin is the largest organ of your body. What you are born with is what you've got for the rest of your life. It defines who you are. And no matter what color it is, it's beautiful."

I especially like how the Yellowman founder, Peter Mui works to reclaim the negative connotations of the term "yellow" as it applies to skin color by making the yellowman skin (t-shirts) something you can be proud to wear.

"...he thumbs his nose on the derrogatory label "Yellow," and instead declares it a badge of integrity and pride for those who dare to be different."

You can tell the product line and business was well thought out. They even have a special (MadKool) fabric that they use to make the shirt comfortable to wear in all situations (snowboarding or xboxing).

While I may never own a yellowman shirt (unless someone is feeling generous and wants to send me an XXL Heavy Metal or Bob Roberts Rock of Ages t-shirt), I certainly know a cool t-shirt site when I see it.

If you're in the market for something truly limited edition, you should definitely checkout the Yellowman collection. Maybe I can convince my wife to gift me a pair of yellowman boxers for Valentines Day.
