logoff - offline
I love the internet. Only recently have I begun to love not being on the internet.
When I say I love the internet...I'm not just sayinig that to get on the internet's good side. I really mean it. It's not the prettiest media on the block, and although it's around my age (depending on the timeline you use), it's still a bit immature at times, but I've got the hots for the interweb.
I literally wouldn't be the person I am today without the internet. Which is kind of weird to say out loud. I wouldn't be living in the house I live in, I wouldn't drive the car I drive, I wouldn't be married to my beautiful wife (don't get me wrong, I love her too), I wouldn't be a stay at home dad, I wouldn't be able to have a job doing what I love (talking about t-shirts!). It's just so darn useful.
I'm not like the other guys who take their internet for granted.
I realize that if I wanted a recipe off of Emeril Live 15 years ago, I would have had to send in that old school favorite "self addressed stamped envelope". Now, I just clickety click to foodtv and BAM, there's my fix for hamburgers infused with andouille sausage. I know that if I saw a cool t-shirt like this 15 years ago, it probably would have been in some mail order catalog and if I wanted to place an order, I would have to mail in a check (or cheque) or money order and probably wait 6-8 weeks for delivery (you remember the time when EVERYTHING took 6-8 weeks for delivery, don't you?). Now, after I finish writing this review, I can head over to shirticus and buy that tee and it'll probably be on my doorstep within a week or 2 (and that's only because it has to travel half way around the world to reach me).
Let's fast forward to today. Live in the now, I say.
Today, as much as I love the internet, as much as a dig all the cool information at my fingertips and as much as I appreciate every opportunity it has presented me, I still love to logoff.
Ask me 3 years ago, and I would have denied it. I would say, I'm on the internet 24/7 and I'm proud of it. Ask me 2 years ago and I would have said I dreaded logging offline.
I've grown a bit since then (2 toddlers will do that to ya). Today, I love to logoff. I relish those moments when there is no email to answer, no forums to moderate, no support tickets to cover, no dedicated servers to monitor. I love those days when I just logoff.
I get to be 100% focused on my family and offline life. I can actually go a whole weekend without thinking of an email I should respond to or a stat I should check. I get to enjoy family trips, donating time to the local community. I won't lie, I even enjoy catching up on soap operas that I've tivo'ed (I'll blame my wife for that vice).
I think the art of the logoff is like what "they say" about relationships and loving someone. If you love someone (or something), you have to love it enough to let it go. So far the internet has always been there when I returned.
So, needless to say, I've got a bit of a crush on this Logoff t-shirt from shirticus. Their site is easy to navigate, their prices are reasonable, and they have all the information a shrewd t-shirtshopper like me could ask for when selecting their next victim looking for a new t-shirt to buy.
If you love the internet or just love being logged off from time to time, pick up a logoff t-shirt for yourself. It's well designed and easy to covet!

piece of mind army men
"Why are the men hunting for treasure on his head"?
That's what my 3 year old daughter said when I showed her this cool t-shirt from the People Like Us Collective.
I know the t-shirt is probably supposed to be about little plastic army men and "boys and their toys". Maybe even a less than subtle allusion to the issues of war and violence in today's society.
But someone, this t-shirt made today alright. It gives me a bit of optimism to know that my daughter (and kids in general) start with a fully blank slate. We (as parents, family and community) get to help paint on the backdrop of their experience.
Right now, my daughter doesn't know what war is. Because of luck or fate, she was born into an environment where she doesn't have to worry about violence and guns interrupting her day to day learning and play activities.
I don't know if it makes me happy or sad to know that some of the world's harsh realities will get their chance to color their own shades on her happy disposition. My hope is that I can bring her up to be able to handle experiences that come her way and teach her to give something back to the community she lives in.
So for her, right now the only thing that could be "on the kid's head" is men looking for treasure. Who am I to tell her they aren't looking for treasure? As far as I know, that could be exactly what they are doing. I hear they have some pretty fancy metal detectors these days :)
Designs like this are just another of the many reasons why I love t-shirts. Every day when I get my daughter up in the morning and I'm wearing a new t-shirt, we get to have enlightening conversations about what's on my t-shirt. Whether it is fruit playing tag, or a can of deer, she always sees something in the design that I might not have discovered with my daddy brain. It's nice to get a fresh look at a design.
Unfortunately, I'll probably never own a piece from the People Like Us Collective website. It looks like they are using the slim fitting (but increasingly popular) AmericanApparel tees. This wouldn't be so bad, in and of itself, except for the fact that they only carry up to size XL. US yankees like our big t-shirts :) BustedTees must have picked up on this, since they carry their AmericanApparel printed designs all the way up to 3XL.
For the rest of the world, People Like Us Creative looks like an awesome place to shop for original, limited edition, artistic t-shirt designs. Since only 200 of each design are ever printed, you won't have to worry about your next door neighbor or dorm mate sporting the same tee when you bump into each other at the coffee shop.
If you're into limited edition, truly unique t-shirt designs, the People Like Us Collective website is one to watch.
