SweatX - Sweatshop Free
Have you ever stopped to take a look at the tag in the t-shirts you buy? Ever wondered where those t-shirts are made and under what conditions?
I just took a peek at the tag in the Fat Albert Platinum FUBU t-shirt I'm wearing and it reads "Made in India".
There is an international movement to raise the quality of the working conditions and the quality of life for factory workers worldwide. SweatX is a big part of that movement.
Founded by Ben Cohen's (Ben & Jerry's) Hot Fudge Social Venture Fund, SweatX Clothing is made in downtown Los Angeles by the TeamX sewing cooperative. All former sweatshop workers, each member now has a union contract preserving dignified working conditions, living wages, medical insurance, a pension and a share of profits through co-op ownership. SweatX is made close to home and proves that globalization doesn't have to rob from laborers.
SweatX asks you to think globally and buy Union when you cast your Vote when you spend your t-shirt dollars. By looking for a SweatX label in the neckline, or a Made in America label, you are helping to make a difference in the lives of those good folk that make the t-shirts you wear.
Every t-shirt you buy may not come from a Union factory in the US. The reality of the matter is that clothing made in America costs significantly more than those manufactured in other countries. I just hope that you take time every now and then to give something back to the t-shirt and garment community.
Buying t-shirt sweatshopfree t-shirt from SweatX is a step in the right direction. I bought my SweatX t-shirt for only $8.95; SweatX is changing the idea that sweatshop free has to mean expensive!
