boondocks - little big town
I wouldn't say I'm a fan of country, but I am a fan of good music.
Last week I found myself at a country concert for the last American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood. It was a birthday gift for my wife, but I'm a fan of the show as well.
The opening act was a band called Little Big Town, and from their first song, to the last one they played, "Boondocks", I was pretty impressed.
Like the true t-shirt junkie I am, between their set and Carrie Underwood's, I headed over to their concession booth to check out their wares. I ended up picking up this cool t-shirt design and their CD.
I like to keep my mind open to new things. Even in genre neighborhoods that I don't normally hang out in. Like I said to the mildly shocked vendor that sold me the goods: "Good music is good music". The same goes for t-shirts: "A cool t-shirt is a cool t-shirt".
If you let them, there are songs, t-shirts, movies, tv shows, cartoons, plays, poems, even video games that trancend normal tastes. Some things are universally good.
This t-shirt design from LittleBigTown is pretty darn cool. The design is a simple 2 color, earthy tone design that easily depicts the sort of small town atmosphere that their Boondocks song rallies behind. I've always been a small town kinda guy, so this t-shirt and song fit perfectly.
I was surprised to see that they printed their t-shirts on American Apparel brand tees. Because of their smaller sizing, I usually don't consider AmericanApparel to be a "mainstream" sort of brand that you would sell to a general middle-america buying public. Then again, they could have gotten behind the fact that AA tees are "made in the USA", which is probably a selling point for a country band (and maybe country music buyers).
One thing I really liked about the design was the fact that even though the garment color is black, the design had trees and shadows that were designed to be "dark" and the designer/screen printer decided to go ahead and use black in on top of the black garment to show those fine details. A very smart design move, that some might consider a printing mistake.
There are people who prefer "fashion t-shirts", or artistic vintage t-shirts, and there are people who prefer "one-liner" or t-shirts with funny phrases on them. As cheesy as it might sound, I like to consider myself a person with the ability to appreciate a good t-shirt no matter what the style. I'm equally comfortable wearing a cool stylized t-shirt like this, as I am wearing a t-shirt that makes me laugh out loud like this.
If you are a fan of country, or like me, just a fan of a good t-shirt, you should check out the Little Big Town Boondocks t-shirt.
