Note: Manifest Worldwide has sold out of the RUN DMC shirt featured in this review. You can buy other RUN DMC t-shirts here.
Who's House? (say what)...Run's House!
If you could TiVo back in my life about 17 years, you would have seen me in 8th grade, last day of school, boombox in hand, fake gold chain turning my neck green, playing the "Tougher Than Leather
Man, I thought I was it back then. I couldn't remember all the presidents names or the 50 state capitals, but I could recite every lyric to every track on 3 full CDs. Those 3 CDs were the first 3 CDs I ever bought (I think CDs came out in 1985-1986, and I was fortunate enough to get a CD boombox for my birthday one year):
Boogie Down Productions - By Any Means Necessary
Eric B and Rakim - Paid In Full
RUN DMC - Tougher Than Leather
Prior to this, my only music experience came vicariously thorugh my older brother and sister. Their musical tastes ranged from Prince to Culture Club and since we were living in England at the time, I think we were a few months (or years) behind the US Pop Charts in terms of getting the "hottest" music.
So my first 3 CD purchases...my first *music* purchases turned out to be Hip Hop records. I could say that shaped my music tastes from that point on...but that would be a lie. Yes, to this day I can still recite all the lyrics of "My Philosophy" (So, you're a philosopher? Yes. Yes. Ye-chewa-Yes. I think very deeply. In about 4 seconds, a teacher will begin to speak), but I can also belt out a mean rendition of "Jeremy" (Clearly I remember, picking on the boy...seemed a harmless little F---) or "Black" (I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star...in somebody else's sky...why...Why...WHY can't it be, can't it be mine) at the drop of a hat.
Manifest Worldwide has t-shirts that will get you remembering "the good 'ol days". Back when all your mind had to deal with was a few choice song lyrics, or whether the front plastic "tire" on your bigwheel had started to split down the middle yet.
After Derek sent me one of his shirts to review, I knew I was going to be emptying my PayPal account in his online store pretty quickly. As I was writing this review today, I noticed that he has his whole line (almost 20 different designs) on sale! So by the time I finished writing this review, I probably will have ordered at least half of them :)
His site was very easy to navigate and shop at. I was able find the designs I wanted, see an upclose picture of what the designs looked like and easily checkout through PayPal once I had finished shopping ($96 later). Because I had already seen and worn a shirt from the ManifestWorldwide line, I knew the shirts were screen printed with close attention to quality and the garment feel was supersoft and nicely sized.
If you are a fan of hip hop, a fan of the "good 'ol days", or just a t-shirt junkie like me (and Derek), now is the perfect time to shop at the Manifest T-Shirt store. I think all of the designs are marked half off, and some are as low as $8.00. Once you see the quality yourself, you'll know you're getting a great deal.
You can also pick up Manifest t-shirts in a few select retail shops around the world!
Now if I can only explain these 10 extra shirts to my wife. Maybe they are a business write-off for research purposes?
On a slightly related note, RUN from RUN-DMC has his own reality tv show that airs on October 13th on MTV. I'll be checking it out for at least one episode, even though I'm not a fan of reality tv.
