Everything tastes better in the South.

Case in point: Chicken. If you've never had true, Southern Fried Chicken, you are missing out. I spent a few years growing up in the South, and come family barbeque time, the first thing that folks went for was my Aunt's tasty chicken. Now that I'm a California kid, it's interesting to see that steak has replaced chicken as the go to BBQ food.

But you know what tastes even better in the South? Donuts!

To be specific, Southen Maid Donuts.

To say that Southern Maid Donuts taste better than "Krispy Kreme" doughnuts would be an understatement. That would be like saying pizza tastes better than dirt.

I remember growing up, waiting for Sundays when we'd head out after 4PM to see the HOT HOT HOT donuts sign glowing. After 4pm is when you'd get the tastiest donut morsels you've ever imagined. They would melt in your mouth so fast that you'd be on your second donut before you even realized your hand was back in the box.

I always tell myself that I'm going to have my cousin overnight FedEx me a box to see if it would make it here fresh. They're never the same after they cool down though.

So although I'm a die hard Californian now, I'm still a big fan of the South. I'm also a big fan of cool t-shirt designs.

The Project240 website has over 50 cool graphic t-shirt designs for sale. They range from logowear to funny vintage tees, and incude designs for both guys and gals.

Since I recently came back from a conference where I was part of a "Pimp My Shop" panel where we offered tips on how to improve folk's t-shirt shops, I still feel the need to point out some areas where Project240 Apparel could improve:

The site is very pretty. But the pretty is getting in the way of the "shopping". Easy shopping should trump pretty every single day of the week.

I would suggest losing the confusing flash navigation (and flash splash screen), and just go for a straight HTML layout. A free shopping cart like CubeCart would be a great way to showcase the many t-shirt designs that are available on the site. As it is now, it's very hard to go from one section of the site to the next.

Then, each t-shirt design would have its own dedicated "add to cart" page where they could add important information like sizing, shipping times, printing methods, and additional product pictures. With all the square thumbnails on the site, it's a bit hard to remember that they are actually selling "t-shirts". Some actual photos of the t-shirts with the designs on them would help reinforce that the company has actual products for sale.

As I said, the designs are very nice. I'd hate to see them not reach their sales potential by making the shopping process harder than it needs to be.

If you want to represent the South, or if you love vintage styled graphic t-shirts, be sure to check out Project 240 Apparel. It's well worth the trip.
